At RAIRU, our operations are grounded in deep care for Latvia’s forests. We fully recognise our role and responsibility in reducing environmental impact. Sustainability is embedded in every aspect of our operations, ensuring Latvia’s forests are preserved for future generations.
Environment
Our work is closely connected to nature, which is why environmental sustainability is one of our priorities. Our forestry work is carefully planned to minimise other land-use disruptions. Environmental responsibility is integrated into every step—from recycling used oil and tyres to maintaining a clean and safe work environment. We strive to leave behind well-managed, thriving forests for generations to come.
Society
The future lies not only in sustainable forests but also in an educated society.
RAIRU collaborates with students and young professionals, offering hands-on experience with modern forestry machinery and responsible forest management practices. In partnership with Ogres Technical College, we help aspiring forestry experts bridge the gap between theory and practice.
With children and young adults, RAIRU invests in future generations by planting forests in Vidzeme or organising industry-related educational trips and events.

We make long-term decisions that promote sustainable forest resource management, ensuring that Latvia remains green and accessible to future generations.
Certificates
RAIRU holds the following certificates: a PEFC forestry contractor certificate (PEFC/12-44-008), an SBP certificate (SBP-04-54) and an FSC® Chain of Custody certificate (FSC-C127905).
SBP (Sustainable Biomass Program) – RAIRU is an SBP Certificate Holder (SBP-04-54) and our wood chips come with an SBP claim, giving assurance that they are legally and sustainably sourced. The certificate covers logging, wood chip production, trade and transport, a Supply Base Evaluation for feedstock sourced from Latvia, and conformance with the EU Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED) requirements. PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) – RAIRU holds a PEFC forestry contractor certificate (TT-PEFC-MDS003) for logging and silviculture work under the PEFC LV MDS 01 standard. The standard aims to promote sustainable forest management and to improve the quality, efficiency and social responsibility of services provided by forestry contractors. FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) – RAIRU holds FSC Chain of Custody certification for logs, fuelwood, wood chips and sawdust with FSC 100%, FSC Mix and FSC Controlled Wood claims (code BM-CW-007055). FSC Chain of Custody Certification means that RAIRU’s forest supply chain is unbroken for our FSC-certified products and supports responsible forestry.
FSC Controlled Wood mitigates the risk of forest-based products originating from unacceptable sources. FSC Controlled Wood requirements prohibit and are designed to avoid: illegally harvested wood, wood harvested in violation of traditional and human rights, wood from forests with threatened High Conservation Values, wood from forests with genetically modified trees, and wood from forests converted to plantations or non-forest uses. These certificates mean that our operations are regularly checked by independent third-party auditors. Only products whose sales and delivery documents carry the relevant certification claim are supplied as certified.
