Sustainability
RAIRU operations are based on care for Latvia’s forests, therefore we clearly realize our role and responsibility in reducing environmental impact. In each and every one of the company’s operating processes and stages, we keep aspects of sustainability in mind and introduce the most environmentally friendly solutions to ensure that Latvia’s forests are available to future generations.
Environment
In our work we are closely connected to nature, therefore environmental sustainability is one of our priorities. We organize work in the forest so that it does not pose a significant threat to other ways of using the forest. Care for the environment is integrated into every step – from subsequent utilization of used oil, tire utilization and a clean working environment to long-term forestry decisions. RAIRU works to ensure that in future, Latvia is clean, tidy and available to future generations.
Society
The value of the future lies not only in sustainable forests, but also in a knowledgeable and educated society.
Our goal is to continue Latvia’s forestry traditions and to educate young people about the importance of sustainable forestry. Therefore, RAIRU collaborates with the forest sector’s young professionals – students. For many years we have collaborated with Ogre Technical College, where we provide budding professionals with the opportunity to test their knowledge in practice with our company’s equipment, as well as offering an insight into the importance of responsible forestry. In educating society, together with children and youngsters RAIRU is making an investment for future generations in jointly planting young forests in Vidzeme, and introducing them to the forestry sector during trips and events designed to give them experience.
Governance
We make long-term decisions that facilitate the sustainable management of forest resources to ensure that in future Latvia will be green, clean and available to next generations.
The quality of our work and responsibility to implement sustainable forestry is guaranteed by the following certificates received by RAIRU: PEFC, SPB and FSC.
SBP (Sustainable Biomass Program) –RAIRU wood chips come with an SBP claim, giving assurance that they are legally and sustainably sourced. This certification assures that it is accompanied by verified energy data, from biomass producer to end-user, allowing carbon emissions calculations to be made.
PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) – a forest certification standard widely accepted globally, which ensures that the forest resources we use have been obtained responsibly, preserving the biological diversity of forests and investing in sustainable forestry.
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) – an internationally recognized forest management standard that certifies that the timber materials we use have been obtained from well-managed forests, which ensures a balance between social responsibility, environmental protection and the economic viability of forest units.
Using these certificates, we guarantee not only that our services and products are verified by third party audits, but also our care for the environment and society as a whole. In our company’s operations, each of these certificates reflects RAIRU’s determination to shape a sustainable future.
